Mondillo Pinot Noir 2020

$48.00
Vendor: Mondillo

Available

Dense, luscious with concentrate cherry, dark plum, liquorice and spicy oak. Enjoy – Salute!

The 2020 Bendigo growing season started off with a cool spring, followed by a warm summer which produced concentrated fruit but of low yields.

The fruit was hand harvested in March 2020, 100% de-stemmed followed by a long cold maceration, fermented slowly and gently pressed. It has been aged in French oak barriques, of which 25% were new, for 11 months.

Drink/Cellar: Now until 2031

Serve with beef, stuffed eggplant, rich tomato/mushroom based recipes, pork and lamb dishes.

Barcode Graphic 750ml: COVID

Cameron Douglas MS - 95 Points – Outstanding!"Fantastic bouquet with ripe red berry fruits laced with mineral and smoky wood tones. Complex, youthful and enticing. Equally delightful and complex on the palate, a core of ripe red berry fruits are contrasted by firm tannins and acid line. Barrel spices and tannins deliver a firm texture contrasted by varietal fruit flavours. Delicious, vibrant, fresh and complex lengthy finish. A wine that will happily rest in your cellar till 2025 then deliver excellent drink through 2035+."

Joelle Thomson - Writer, author, journalist - 18.5/20
"Opulent is the word in this silky, fruity new Pinot Noir from Dom Mondillo. His long history in the region has fostered a deep understanding of the place and cemented his love for Pinot Noir. So far, a classic Kiwi Pinot Noir formula but this wine is surprisingly approachable for a new release, with its lifted bright and bold red fruity appeal, firm but smooth and lowish tannins and a lovely lingering silky finish. "

Bob Campbell 95/100 – Gold
The Real Review - Ranked #11 of 75 Pinot Noir from Central Otago

"Dense, ripe and concentrated pinot noir with cassis, dark cherry, floral/violet and a hint of spice/anise. Vibrant, wine that is deliciously drinkable now but should age well. It opened up as it sat in the glass. (100% destemmed, fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged for 11 months in French oak barrels, 30% new.)"
