Mondillo Pinot Noir 2016

$45.00
Vendor: Mondillo

Available

Full-bodied with ripe dark cherry aromas and a concentrated core of berry fruits. The seductively smooth palate packed with fragrant spices, blackberries, chocolate, violets and soft oak.

The 2016 Bendigo growing season began with warm weather and light summer breezes that provided a disease free environment for perfect flowering, an even berry set, and clean fruit. A warm summer lead to a dry sunny Autumn - harvest conditions were dry and calm.

The fruit was hand harvested, 100% de-stemmed followed by a long cold maceration, fermented slowly and gently pressed. It has been aged in French oak barriques, of which 30% were new for 11 months.

Drink/Cellar: Now until 2022

Serve with stuffed eggplant, rich tomato/mushroom based recipes, pork, beef and lamb dishes.

Barcode Graphic 750ml: Summer blown leaves

Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier, 94/100 Points
A concentrated bouquet packed with dark red berry fruit, oak and mineral-laden soil aromas. Dried raspberry and dark cherry at the core. Vibrant and energized on the palate with lively backbone of acidity and firm youthful yet ripe tannins wrapped in a core of fruit. Very lengthy and dry finish. Slightly dusty tannins. Very youthful still. Best from 2019 through 2022.

Michael Cooper, 5 Stars
Estate-grown at Bendigo, in the Cromwell Basin, the 2016 vintage was matured for 11 months in French oak casks (30 per cent new). Deep ruby, it is an attractively scented, powerful red with mouthfilling body and generous, ripe, plummy, spicy flavours. Savoury, with slightly earthy notes adding complexity and good tannin backbone, it's full of personality and well worth cellaring.

Bob Campbell 93/100 Points
Aromatic and quite elegant pinot noir from the Bendigo subregion of Central Otago. Plum, floral and dark cherry flavours with a suggestion of charcoal and wood-smoke. A stylish wine.

Raymond Chan, Five Stars
The nose is softly full and voluminous with fragrant aromas of ripe dark-red and black cherry and berry fruits interwoven with violet florals forming a fine, deep core with soft, dark herb nuances along with hints of spice and oak. Medium-full bodied, the palate has sweetly rich and luscious, finely concentrated flavours of ripe, dark-red cherry and berry fruits melded with an array of dark-red and violet florals, interwoven with dark herb elements and a little spice. The fruit richness is enlivened by fresh acidity and tempered by fine-grained, flowery tannin extraction. This has very good linearity and carries to a long, nuanced finish of dark-red fruits, florals and herbs. This is a sweetly rich and luscious, finely concentrated Pinot Noir with ripe dark-red and black fruits lifted by fragrant florals and herb notes on a fine-structured palate.
